Infrastructure Engineer

The role

We’re hiring an infrastructure engineer to build and operate the systems behind Orthogonal. You’ll work on API execution, reliability, observability, security, and deployment. You’ll work directly with the founders and product engineers. This is a full-time, in-person role in San Francisco.

What you'll do

  • Design and operate services that discover, call, and meter third-party APIs
  • Improve system reliability, latency, monitoring, and incident response
  • Build deployment, testing, and development infrastructure
  • Improve database performance and data reliability
  • Review infrastructure for security and operational risks
  • Help make technical decisions as the platform grows

Who you are

  • 3+ years of professional infrastructure or backend engineering experience
  • Experience building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and databases
  • Comfortable with TypeScript and Node.js or another server-side language
  • Experience with cloud services, containers, CI/CD, and observability tools
  • Able to debug failures across application and infrastructure layers
  • Comfortable working closely with a small team and changing priorities

Nice to have

  • Experience with API gateways, usage metering, or payment systems
  • Experience operating Postgres, queues, and caching systems
  • Experience with MCP servers or agent infrastructure
  • Security or reliability engineering experience
