MCP Server

Add Orthogonal to Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client

Connect Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client to Orthogonal. Through the tools below, your agent can search the catalog, run any tool or API, check your account, credits and payouts, and list your own API.

Install

Add it to Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http orthogonal https://www.orthogonal.com/mcp

Sign in to see who pays: your account or your organization.

Run it in a terminal, then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in in your browser.

Or add it to another client:

  1. 1

    Open Connectors

Go to Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector.

  2. 2

    Add the server

Enter the name Orthogonal and the URL https://www.orthogonal.com/mcp, then click Add.

  3. 3

    Connect

Click Connect and authorize with your Orthogonal account. The tools appear once it connects.

Organization

To have an organization pay, connect to the organization address:

claude mcp add --transport http orthogonal-org https://www.orthogonal.com/org

In other clients, use https://www.orthogonal.com/org as the URL.

It takes sign-in only (OAuth, no API keys). The organization you pick at sign-in pays, and its limits apply, including the cap its admins set for you. It has its own name, so your client keeps it apart from your personal sign-in.

Other ways to pay are in Who pays; caps are in Spend limits.

Available Tools

Every connection gets the seven API tools. A sign-in (OAuth, at https://www.orthogonal.com/mcp or https://www.orthogonal.com/org) also gets the account, usage, payouts and onboarding tools.

An API-key connection (mcp-remote with x-api-key) keeps the seven API tools only. For the others, connect with a sign-in. Listing an API and payouts always need one.

When you ask your assistant to do something like “enrich this lead”, it will search for enrichment APIs, get_details to understand the parameters, then use to make the call and return the result.

Account, credits and payouts

On a sign-in, ask your agent about your account in plain words:

  • “Which Orthogonal account is this, and how many credits are left?” uses account. It also says who pays for calls on this connection: you, or the organization you signed in for.
  • “What did my API calls cost in the last 7 days?” uses usage. It takes days (1 to 365, default 30) and limit (1 to 100 calls, default 20).
  • “What is our organization owed, and which payouts were made?” uses payouts, for admins of a seller organization. On a personal sign-in, it answers for your seller organization.

Adding credits and setting up payouts happen in the browser, at Add funds and Earnings and payouts; the tools answer with those links.

List your API from your agent

If you sell an API, your own agent can list it on Orthogonal through the onboarding tools, the same steps as the dashboard. Create your seller organization in Your listings first; agents can’t create one.

  1. 1

    Connect with a sign-in

Use the organization address and pick your seller organization when you sign in:

claude mcp add --transport http orthogonal-org https://www.orthogonal.com/org

A personal sign-in at https://www.orthogonal.com/mcp works too: the tools act for your seller organization.

  2. 2

    Ask your agent

“List my API on Orthogonal. The docs are at https://docs.example.com, and agents use it for weather forecasts.”
  3. 3

The agent follows the next step

It reads onboarding_tools and makes the request. Once Orthogonal approves it, Orth, Orthogonal’s onboarding agent, sets up the API, and your agent calls onboarding_status and does what its nextStep says, until the API is submitted.

  4. 4

    You review

Orth decides the setup itself (endpoints, prices, maximums and test values), confirms it and runs the checks, then explains its choices in a final report. It asks nothing: only adding the key and submitting are yours.

  5. 5

    You add the key

The API key never goes through the agent or chat. Add it in Your listings with Add credential securely.

The onboarding tool runs list_organizations, list_requests, create_request, get_request, start_onboarding, onboarding_status, stop_onboarding, get_setup, set_base_url, set_prices, leave_out, confirm_setup, answer_approval, run_checks, submit_for_review, withdraw_submission, resubmit_request, cancel_request, listing_status, start_update and discard_update. It also runs the setup tools Orth uses itself, for doing the setup with your own agent. onboarding_tools returns each tool’s input schema.

Verify Installation

Ask your assistant:

“Search Orthogonal for APIs that can enrich leads by email.”

If it’s configured correctly, it will use the search tool and return results.

Troubleshooting

Server not showing up
  1. Fully restart the client application.
  2. Check that the URL is exactly https://www.orthogonal.com/mcp, or https://www.orthogonal.com/org for an organization.
  3. Verify your MCP client supports HTTP transport.
Tools not working
  1. Check that your account has credits: ask your agent, run orth balance, or open www.orthogonal.com/account/balance.
  2. Try a simple search first to verify connectivity.
  3. Check the client’s MCP logs for errors.
Account or onboarding tools missing
  1. They need a sign-in. An API-key connection (mcp-remote) has the seven API tools only.
  2. Connect to https://www.orthogonal.com/mcp or https://www.orthogonal.com/org without a key header, and sign in when your client asks.
  3. Onboarding and payouts act for an organization that sells APIs, and need you to be its admin.
